Social Health Projects

Our Programs

West Coast Speaks Health Society develops simple tools and initiatives that make it easier for people to start conversations and build social connections in their communities. Each program takes a slightly different approach, but they all share the same goal: helping reduce social isolation by creating opportunities for meaningful human interaction.

West Coast Speaks collaborates with local cafés, community organizations, and public institutions to create welcoming spaces for conversation.

Programs are open to members of the public and designed to be accessible, welcoming, and inclusive.

1. Meet a Stranger Program: Finding commonality through connection, one conversation at a time.

2. Open to Conversation Program: Making it easier to start conversations with strangers, one small signal at a time.

3. Sitka Project: A quiet signal that makes it easier to start conversations.

Meet someone new. Engage in conversation. Learn about each other.

Three ways to connect. One shared goal: to make talking to strangers fun again.

A quiet signal. A visible community. A conversation if you want it.

We acknowledge with gratitude that we live, work, and gather on the traditional, and ancestral, territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) Peoples, known today as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.

We also recognize the ongoing relationships with the W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples, whose historic connections to this land remain strong and deeply rooted.

As settlers and guests on these lands, we commit to listening, learning, and taking meaningful steps toward reconciliation, while honouring the enduring presence, wisdom, and resilience of the Indigenous Peoples who have cared for these lands since time immemorial.
